On the 7th March, 2019, I had walked into the office of Mr. Boman Irani (Then Director with Ideal Jawa India Pvt Ltd and now CMD Rustomjee Group) and shared my experiences of the Dominar Polar Odyssey and my landing & riding on the 7th Continent. I owe my 6 Continents to Boman, alongside Late Tehmton Irani and Shiraz Irani, and the Foreever Bike, Yezdi from the stables of Ideal Jawa India Pvt Ltd.
I was away on the Polar Odyssey and amidst huge fanfare the brand was resurrected towards a launch sometime in November 2018.. I watched it live, as it unfolded and on my return to India, made my way to meet Boman, at which time he presented to me a book that was compiled by Adil Jal Darukhanawala. I couldn’t have asked for a better memory with Boman, requested him to endorse his autograph and till today, treasure it.
After a near year wait to meet, and efforts to connect with the man, Adil Sir himself, a chance meeting, that too in Bangalore finally happened. I have been wanting to meet Adil Sir since Boman handed over his book and personally thank him for his humongous efforts to have collected so many historical facts about this machine and put together in over 286 pages with rich pictures of the legendary motorcycle on every page, what made this brand a Forever Bike and the 3 Amigos (Boman Irani, Anand Mahindra and Anupam Thareja) getting together to resurrect this brand.
For diehard fans of this Forever Bike and all the two wheel aficionados, this is indeed a collector’s item, purely to understand how a brand which thrived found its way and stay true to its name.
Did you know, Adil Sir, not only being a very senior and respected journalist in the Auto world, an award winning Author and a historian, is also an accomplished adventurer himself! He was one of the pioneers who started the trend of reader friendly Auto magazines starting with the Car and bike International,Overdrive and Zigwheels .
The list of young Auto writers who have been influenced by him will definitely read like the who’s who of auto journalists today.
Having ridden across the Sahara Desert on the Kinetic Honda….Unbelievable, but true!! Just one of the many adventures that this man has accomplished in his hey days, and continues to inspire generations of what it is like to get to the depth of any aspiration.
